Maritime Speaker Series: Paul Kuehn “What is Means to be a Friend of Plum and Pilot Island”
December 5, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
This presentation of the Door County Medical Center Maritime Speaker Series will feature Paul Kuehn talking about “What it Means to be a Friend of Plum and Pilot Island”.
The Door County Medical Center Maritime Speaker Series programs are held the first Thursday of each month, October through May, beginning at 7pm. The Maritime Speaker Series is held in the Reddin Bridge Room at the Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay, 120 North Madison Avenue. Admission is free of charge with a suggested non-perishable food donation.
Paul Kuehn will present an armchair exploration of Plum Island and its rich maritime history at Death’s Door Passage. His presentation will include many photos of the island’s flora, and highlight the work volunteers have accomplished to save the remaining historic buildings and open walking trails around this Green Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
After 30 years of teaching climbing and technical rescue, then ten years inspecting fire and rescue apparatus, Paul Kuehn decided to follow his passion and longtime sideline of retrofitting homes to make them zero energy. While helping Friends of Rock Island, he couldn’t help but be drawn to the little Plum island he passed many weekends each summer.
The Door County Medical Center Maritime Speaker Series offers an assortment of monthly programs dealing with everything from historical topics to current issues affecting the Great Lakes and the economy that relies on them. Additional support for the Door County Medical Center Maritime Speaker Series is provided by Foremost Resorts, The Lodge at Leathem Smith, Westwood Shores and the Sister Bay Bowl.
