An Important Follow-up Note from Executive Director Bob Desh:

"Please accept my most heartfelt and sincere apology for the confusion on the hours for our “Santa on the Tug” event this past Saturday, the 12th of December.  Due to a misunderstanding between the Maritime Museum and Santa on the amount of time he would be able to spend with us, our website errantly indicated that Santa would be available until 2:00 p.m.  He actually needed to depart shortly after 1:00 to make an appearance elsewhere.  I take full and complete responsibility for the confusion and deeply regret any disappointment or sadness it may have caused.  Our littlest guests are our most cherished!  I hope anyone who arrived after Santa’s departure will focus their displeasure on me personally, rather than the Maritime Museum and its dedicated staff and volunteers.  Again, I am genuinely sorry and hope that everyone enjoys a most joyous holiday season."

We are excited to announce that we have received confirmation from Christmas Headquarters at the North Pole that Santa will once again be stopping by the museum ship John Purves on December 12th.  Santa plans to arrive aboard a Coast Guard small boat at 10:00 A.M. and will be available for visits and photo opportunities on the tug until 2:00 P.M.  Video entertainment will be available in the Museum's Reddin Bridge Room for all good little boys and girls waiting to visit Santa Claus on the tug.

PRESS RELEASE

Santa Claus will be making a return visit to the Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay this year to gather gift requests from area children. The jolly gent will welcome children aboard the Tug John Purves, the Museum’s 90-year-old in-water exhibit, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12.

“Santa will arrive at the Museum on board a Coast Guard boat,” said Bob Desh, the Museum’s executive director. “At least that’s the plan, provided ice doesn’t prevent it like it did last year.”

Desh remains optimistic that a naval arrival is likely and will add a new twist to the many adventures of the Christmas icon.

Once on board the 149-foot vessel, Santa will eagerly accept children’s Christmas wishes. However, due to the cramped conditions on the vessel, only two adults will be permitted to escort the children. While they wait, children will be entertained by holiday videos in the Museum’s Reddin Bridge Room.

There is no cost for visiting Santa, but donations will be appreciated.

The Maritime Museum is located at 120 N. Madison Avenue, between the two downtown bridges. For more information on Santa’s visit or the Museum in general call 920-743-5958.
