‘MERRY-TIME FESTIVAL OF THE TREES’ RETURNS AT MARITIME MUSEUM
After a successful fifth season in 2017 when festively decorated trees could be found throughout the Door County Maritime Museum galleries, the “Merry-Time Festival of Trees” returns in 2017 with 37 uniquely decorated trees and wreaths donated by businesses and individuals in our community.
Create a new holiday tradition for your family and friends by joining in this wonderful festive event. The festival will run from November 11 through December 12 with visitors invited to see what is expected to be an even grander extravaganza of trees during regular museum hours as well as special events planned throughout the nearly month-long festival. Raffles galore await! Children’s raffles are Nov 25 and Dec 2 while the adults can take a chance to win beautiful trees and wreaths from Nov 11 through Dec 12!
To start off the festival will be a “Stress-Free” Holiday Cooking Demo on Saturday, November 11 at 10:30 am. No need to spend the whole day in the kitchen to enjoy the holidays. Thyme Catering will walk you through how to make your pantry and freezer your friend this holiday season. Start with an hors d’oeuvre and if need be, make it a meal. Arm yourself with the tools to prepare for guests and unexpected guests. Less stress holidays for all. Registration is $30 and includes cooking demo, samples of prepared foods, recipes, holiday refreshments, one free tree raffle ticket and free museum admission.
Also, “Learn To Quilt the Old-Fashioned Way” on Saturday, November 11 at 2 pm. Make your own precious hand-made holiday ornament. Create a unique, quilted tree ornament for your own tree or a present for someone else’s. You can bring your own favorite piece of material to bring back memories (a favorite ragged shirt that can’t be worn anymore but you can’t part with it) or use material provided by the experienced local quilters who will be helping you. If you bring your own material, you will need at least two 6-inch squares. Registration is $20 and includes all necessary materials, one free tree raffle ticket and free museum admission.
Just be aware that space is limited for the “Stress-Free Holiday Cooking Demo” and to “Learn to Quilt the Old-Fashioned Way.” Hurry and sign up today by calling (920) 743-5958 or go online to www.DCMM.org to register for these events.
A special thank you to the pair of local school bake sale clubs, Southern Door Parents Involved in Education and Zion Lutheran School, who will be sharing their delectable delights with you at the Door County Maritime Museum on Saturday, November 11
Every day is a “kid’s day” during the festival. Every child accompanied by an adult will receive free admission to museum with a nominal Cana Island restoration donation with matching funds from ERA Starr Realty. The regular adult museum admission of $10 will apply and will include one free raffle ticket. Other special events planned will coincide with Sturgeon Bay’s Christmas by the Bay activities. Visitors will enjoy four weekends of family fun activities (including a visit from Santa!).
Saturday, November 25, is the Merry-Time Fun Kid’s Day and will be filled with excitement from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Bring the children in for a lively raffle, suspenseful scavenger hunt, exciting elf trivia, brisk bean bag toss, cool cookie decorating, and creative crafts! Raffle items donated by Child’s Play.
And children will have a unique experience telling Santa their secret wishes to Santa on the Tug John Purves on Saturday, December 2. Children’s entertainer, Randy Peterson, will perform Christmas favorites and more that day. In addition, children can partake in another raffle, watch Christmas videos, or color while awaiting their turn to see the Jolly Gent on the Tug! Raffle items donated by Dancing Bear.
The month-long event culminates with the “Jingle, Jingle, Mix & Mingle” on Tuesday, December 12 offering a bountiful reception, the opportunity to browse and bid in a silent and live auction and the culmination of the raffle ticket tree giveaway.
