Sea Dogs Exhibit Open Now!
“Loyal companions, warriors, lifesavers, guardians… extraordinary stories of dogs and the sea.”
Humans and dogs have enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship for tens of thousands of years. From the earliest days of humans going down to sea in ships, their canine companions have joined them in all manner of endeavors on and near the water. From shipboard mascots to working dogs trained specifically for maritime pursuits, “sea dogs” have loyally served, saved, and loved their sailor companions.
The Sea Dogs exhibit explores the affiliations and enterprises that bond dogs and humans in a wide spectrum of nautical environments. Calling on all the human senses, the exhibit will educate and entertain the visitor through use of original art, historic photographs, videos, interactive games, and other activities as it explores the special role dogs played in forging maritime history and heritage. After completing their journey through the Sea Dogs exhibit, the visitor will come away with a better understanding and renewed appreciation for the many contributions dogs have made to maritime history.
