Self-Guided Experiences

For self-guided experiences – Cana Island and Eagle Bluff lighthouses are open during the festival, maintaining their regular in-season schedule and rates. Special viewing opportunities will exist at the Sherwood Point Lighthouse (Saturday & Sunday) and the Sturgeon Bay Canal Station (Saturday & Sunday) for a freewill donation.

The six-hour tour spotlights five mainland-accessible lighthouses: Eagle Bluff, Cana Island, Baileys Harbor Range Lights, Sherwood Point and Sturgeon Bay Canal Station lights. Tour departs from Door County Trolley Station in Egg Harbor and Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay at 9:00 am both Saturday and Sunday, June 13-14.

This ninety-minute trolley tour features stories of the area’s spirited maritime past. Includes stops at the Sherwood Point Lighthouse and Sturgeon Bay Canal Station lights. Tour departs from the Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay at 6:00 and 8:00 pm both Friday and Saturday nights, June 12-13.

 


Naturalist-Narrated Tour

This small group tour is six and a half hours long and includes stops at Sherwood Point, Sturgeon Bay Canal Station, Cana Island, Eagle Bluff and Baileys Harbor Range Lights with drive-by of a sixth light.  Departs from Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay at 9:00 am both Friday and Saturday, June 12-13, and returns at 3:30 pm.

This six-hour voyage across Death’s Door and into Michigan waters is traditionally one of the most popular boat excursions.  Tour passes Poverty and St. Martin islands with stop at Rock Island for a mile-long hike to the Pottawatomie Lighthouse, Wisconsin’s oldest, and on past the Plum Island Range Lights and the Pilot Island Lighthouse. The tour leaves Gills Rock at 9:00 am Saturday, June 13. Bring a box lunch; vending is not available.

It is still uncertain as to whether bus transportation from the dock on Chambers Island to the lighthouse will be available. If it isn't, access to the historic lighthouse requires a 1-1/2 mile docent-led hike across the island. Lighthouse caretakers will meet the tours as they arrive at the house. There you will be able to soak up the amazing view, and climb to the lantern room platform.
Note: Good hiking shoes recommended and participants should be in good enough shape to handle the hike in the allocated time (if needed).
Time on the island will be approximately 2-1/2 hours. Tours will leave the Fish Creek dock aboard the Quo Vadis on Saturday, June 13, at 9:00 am, 11:30 am and 2:00 pm.  Sunday tours leave at 9:00 and 11:30.

Take this intimate narrated tour (total time 3 hrs) aboard the 16-passenger Shoreline Charter into Death’s Door, some of the most history-rich straits on the Great Lakes. Highlights include water views of the Range Lights and the abandoned Coast Guard Station on Plum Island and then to eerie Pilot Island with its bare trees and deteriorating lighthouse. Tour departs from Shoreline Charters dock in Gills Rock at 10:00 am and 1:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday, June 13-14.

This 3-hour tour is a rare offering, permitting visitors onto Plum Island for a guided tour by members of the Friends of Plum & Pilot Islands. Only four tours are being allowed on the island, which is under the authority of the United States Fish & Wildlife Service.  
Note:  This is a walking tour of more than a mile and requires good footwear. Shorts are not recommended. The Friends require a signed liability waiver which will be provided upon ticket purchase to be brought to the dock.
Tours will leave the Shoreline Charters Dock in Gills Rock at 9:00 am and 12:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday, June 13-14.

These 4-1/2 hour Friday cruises on June 12 will leave from Gills Rock and proceed to Rock Island where passengers can disembark and walk the one-mile trail to the lighthouse. Bring a box lunch to enjoy while on the island or on the boat. Return trip will provide close-up views of the Plum Island Range Lights and the Pilot Island Lighthouse. Departs from Shoreline Charters dock in Gills Rock at 9:00 am and 2:00 pm on Friday, June 12.

Set sail into yesteryear on a 19th century tall ship to Peninsula State Park's Eagle Bluff Lighthouse. Join the crew in hoisting a halyard or sit back and listen to wind and wave aboard the 65-foot schooner, the Edith M. Becker. Local lore and history of the surrounding waters and water views of the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse will complete this 2.5-hour sailing adventure as you view rocky shores, islands, caves and majestic bluffs. Enjoy adult beverages served by the crew and hear the cannon thunder as they strike sail and salute the end of a perfect cruise. Departing from Sister Bay Marina for one tour at 1:30 pm on Friday, June 12; two tours at 9:30 & 1:00 on Saturday, June 13 and another tour at 9:30 am on Sunday, June 14.

These 90-minute narrated tours on Sturgeon Bay depart from the dock adjacent to the Door County Maritime Museum and cruise to either the Sherwood Point Lighthouse or the Sturgeon Bay Canal Station lights. Cruises are aboard the retired City of Chicago fireboat Fred A. Busse. Tours leave at 10:30 am and 12:30 pm each day, Friday to Sunday, June 13-15.
