Maritime Speaker Series has four monthly programs Dec. 8, Jan. 5, Feb. 2 and Mar 2, 2017. The evening programs begin at 7 p.m. at the Sturgeon Bay museum and are free of charge with a non-perishable food donation requested.
The Door County Maritime Museum will continue its Speaker Series on Thursday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. at the Sturgeon Bay museum. Richard Purinton will present a program about his recent National Geographic Expedition to the Falklands and South Georgia Island. Located off the south coast of South America, the islands were in the headlines in 1982 for the Falklands War when Argentina attempted to wrest the islands from Great Britain’s control. South Georgia is also remembered by many for Ernest Shackleton’s dramatic expedition in the early 20th Century. Admission is free but a non-perishable food item for the local food pantries is appreciated. Call (920) 743-5958 for more information.
